The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Imo state chapter, Tuesday, sacked it’s chairman, Engr Charles Ugwu, and immediately appointed the Okigwe zonal chairman, Hon Chidi Dike, as his replacement.
This followed a motion moved by the PDP chairman for Ohaji Egbema, Hon Emeka Alihe and seconded by the chairman of Owerri Municipal, Hon Godspower Apollos and adopted by no fewer than 18 other local government chairmen as well as members of the State Executive Committee (SEC).
Blueprint gathered that Ugwu was removed over alleged gross misconduct and insurbordination.
Recall that in a letter tagged “Majority Resolution of Members of the State Executive Council of the People’s Democratic Party, Imo State Chapter” at it’s meeting held on 24/10/23, passed a Vote of No Confidence/Suspension of Engr. Charles Ugwu from office immediately as chairman Imo State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, signed by the State Secretary, Hon Njaba Duruiheoma, Emeka Alihe, a chieftain of the party.”
It was alleged that the party chairman failed to summon a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) contrary to the provisions of S. 21(3) of the party constitution, adding that he had no justifiable reason to fail to attend any of the Thank You tours embarked upon by the governorship candidate of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, in the 27 local government areas of the state, including the one at the Owerri Municipal which was held at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri, contrary to S.58(1) of the party constitution, not minding that he was duly notified by the party.
