iPhone 16 Pro Battery Prototype Leaked Online; Suggests Higher Capacity Than iPhone 15 Pro

The iPhone 15 Series has been one of the most popular smartphones of the year. Apple finally left behind the legacy of the lightning port by switching to USB-C and also introduced camera upgrades on the Pro models. The iPhone 15 Pro saw such a huge demand that Apple had to delay order shipments for up to two months during the launch.

While the iPhone 15 Series continues to amaze users, Apple has already started working on its successor, the iPhone 16. A new battery prototype has surfaced online, which is said to be from the early development units of the iPhone 16 Pro. It suggests that the upcoming iPhones could get some slight upgrades in the battery capacities.

iPhone 16 Pro May Get a Larger Battery Than the iPhone 15 Pro

Twitter user @KosutamiSan has posted some images that appear to be the prototype battery units of the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro. It looks like Apple may continue to use its L-shaped battery design, and may introduce a metal shell covering over the battery.

Images show that the iPhone 16 Pro may have a battery capacity of 3355mAh, which is slightly larger compared to the 3274mAh on the latest iPhone 15 Pro. The tipster further mentions that Apple could switch to a new battery connector.

As these are early prototypes, the final specifications of the iPhone 16 Pro could be slightly different. Apple already has pressure from the European Union for the European EcoDesign Directive which sets new regulations for battery endurance on smartphones and tablets.

Apple has already switched to USB-C to comply with the EU. The company is also working to finally open the doors of its operating system to third-party app stores, something that they have resisted for over a decade.

Apple May Provide Larger Screen Size on iPhone 16 Series

A recent report suggested that Apple could introduce a larger screen size on the base models, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus. The company is expected to continue using the dynamic island design across all models in the iPhone 16 Series. However, it looks like ProMotion 120Hz will remain exclusive to the Pro models for at least one more year.

Tipster Ross Young added that Apple may provide its ProMotion 120Hz screen on all models starting from the iPhone 17 Series. Hence, iPhone enthusiasts may have to wait slightly longer to enjoy higher refresh rates on base-model iPhones.

Apple was also said to be testing a punch-hole design for its display, but considering the software integration features of the Dynamic Island, it is highly unlikely that Apple will switch to a new design so soon.

The iPhone 16 Series still has a long way to go, as it is expected to launch somewhere around October 2024 as per Apple’s regular timelines. Hence, it will be interesting to see what Apple brings around new with its upcoming iPhones.
